We have a Diversity and Intercultural Competence Committee. Our responsibilities are:

This committee is composed of one member from the Student Development division, the director of the Horizon Scholarship program, one staff member, one representative from the Learning Center, three faculty members, and two student senate members. The committee meets monthly with more meetings at the call of the chair. The purpose is to provide leadership for campus-wide diversity initiatives and multicultural engagement and to provide policy recommendations.

The committee will act upon the following matters:

• Development of and commitment to a diversity mission statement and strategic plan
• Facilitate the on-going assessment of diversity initiatives
• Collaborate with strategic partners that are pursuing diversity
• Proposal of policy statements promoting campus diversity
• Increase student, staff and faculty exposure to issues of diversity and
multi-culturalism; including, but not limited to, emphasis weeks, campus discussions, faculty/staff development, and co-curricular student development programs
• Exploration of employment and retention strategies for increasing diversity among faculty, staff and students
• Promote and facilitate the development of student learning outcomes and core competencies for diversity and multicultural understanding
• Create participatory and educational opportunities for the greater Huntington community
