We created a Leadership Development Committee(it ended up being called a committee because we have trouble with any other type of group that is not a committee) made up of students representing the three major departments on campus who have student leadership positions. This group meets regularly throughout the summer (student government pays for their housing) to learn about leadership and themselves as leaders. We also plan and then implement our annual Leadership Conference for all 250 student leaders. This same committee then continues to meet throughout the year to follow-up on the learning that happened at Leadership Conference by holding events that have leadership themes. This year we invited Steve Haas from World Vision to speak and we gave a copy of Rich Stern’s “Hole in Our Gospel” to all of our student leaders. We will follow up in February and again in April with discussions about the book and ways in which student leaders were able to connect the material with their leadership experiences.
