Just curious who has heard of what out there?
I have always been a fan of Robert Greenleaf’s “Servant Leadership.” There is also a good concept presented by William Robinson in “Leading People from the Middle.” And I like to tie those together w/ Max DePree’s concepts in “Leadership Jazz” and “Leadership as an Art.”
Recently I read Juana Bordas’ book “Salsa, Soul & Spirit: Leadership for a Multicultural Age.” Excellent current material which we’ll be discussing at the upcoming ACSD conference!
In terms of servant leadership…I’ve always enjoyed Henry Noewen’s “In the Name of Jesus.” Rather than offering the typical, formulaic “this is how you lead” approach, Noewen addresses the heart of the servant leader and his/her orientation toward leadership. It may be the only book that goes beyond the question of “how do I be a leader” and answers the question “why should I be a leader.”
One of the most helpful books that we have used recently is “The Way of the Shepherd”, by Kevin Leman and William Pentak. Good ideas for leadership in a variety of settings.

I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a B.A. in Leadership! Our foundational leadership theory was Servant Leadership! We studied a plethora of other theories, but it all revolved around being a servant. It is was amazing to read the Gospels with the servant leadership theory in mind. It really shows Jesus, and his way of leading in a different light!
