The Graduate Assistant Resident Director will support the Student Development Office by fostering a robust living and learning community for undergraduate residential students, in a manner consistent with the College’s Mission and Vision, and the Purpose of Residential Life. The GA RD is responsible for a particular residence hall by providing a live-in presence in the hall and directly serving a culturally diverse student population. The GA RD will know and care for students in the hall, supervise Resident Assistants, and oversee educational and operational activities.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Staff Supervision
Supervise and evaluate Resident Assistants (RA)s
Plan and conduct RA staff meetings on a weekly basis
Meet with each RA staff members individually on a regular basis
Participate in the planning and implementation of RA training and development programs and retreats
Advise RAs on appropriate resident and floor interventions, and communicate with RAs about all residents
Participate in the RA selection process

Student Development in the Residence Hall
Work with RAs to plan and implement hall and floor programming
Supervise RAs in program budgeting and manage hall programming budget
Conduct daily walk-throughs of the entire residence hall, along with consistent live-in presence in the hall
Respond as on-call GA RD for crisis emergency situations; on call approximately 1 week per month
Address campus policy violations and emergencies along with Security as needed
Check in on, mentor, and provide counsel to students, and make referrals as appropriate
Communicate pertinent information and resources to students; respond to student questions in a timely manner
Participate in weekly meetings with the Residential Life staff, and collaborate on initiatives with staff

Facilitate opening and closings of residence hall
Facilitate check-in/out procedures and room changes
Submit and track/follow-up maintenance and housekeeping concerns/requests
Work with the Director of Residential Life and RA staff to ensure proper occupancy records
Work with the Director of Residential Life to assist with housing assignments and related administrative tasks

Weekly check-ins with the Director of Residential Life, and participation in professional training/evaluation
Collaborate with other Student Development departments and the broader campus community to facilitate a seamless educational experience and foster holistic student development.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Life.

A bachelor’s degree is required with preference given to candidates with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in roles related to Residential Life. Experience in student development at small, private, liberal arts colleges either professionally or educationally is preferred. Must have an established record of excellent mentoring relationships with students, and collegial relationships with staff and faculty. Excellent management skills and strong organizational and administrative skills are also necessary. Must be of strong character with a desire to serve, and possess confidence/experience to care for students through accountability and discipline when applicable. Graduate assistants must be enrolled full-time in an Eastern Nazarene College graduate program. A strong and vibrant Christian faith that connects to the mission, vision, and values of the college is required.
