Through dynamic and innovative approaches, Student Life is a robust division that provides students with opportunities for meaningful engagement and transformation in the co-curricular context. The Director of Career Services provides leadership and direction for a university-wide strategic initiative that incorporates best practices in the field of career services. This position develops a strategic plan for enhancing and enriching a clear pathway for students’ career development and success by integrating career services into the HSU university experience. The Director of Career Services works under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Students and in the division of Student Life.
The Director of Career Services is expected to maintain contact with HR offices and hiring managers of Big Country Chambers of Commerce members, DFW businesses, and Midland/Odessa businesses. Manages and promotes the usage of Handshake. Arranges, manages, and coordinates hiring managers coming to campus to interview students. Guides students in career choices and employer matches. Meets regularly with Abilene Chamber of Commerce to determine job needs for the area. Reports job needs and trends to Deans and AC for consideration of programming to meet the needs.
