Job Title: Resident Director - Male Department: Student Development Reports to: Director of Residence Life Job Summary: The Residence Director enhances the effectiveness of the Office of Residence Life by providing oversight and training to Chamberlains (student resident assistants), mediating room conflicts, and aiding students in their adjustment to The King’s College, New York City. This individual empowers students in housing to assume responsibility for shaping their living environment and cultivating healthy relationships. The Resident Director will live in a studio apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan at one of our residential sites. Responsibilities: 1. Supervision of Chamberlains a. Train and empower Chamberlains to effectively execute their leadership responsibilities. b. Meet regularly with each male Chamberlain for coaching and development. c. Guide Chamberlains in strengthening community in Houses and in mediating conflict in rooms. 2. Guidance to Students in Housing a. Help students develop appropriate boundaries and standards consistent with The King’s College honor code. b. Teach students conflict resolution skills and how to confront issues that arise in their House and their room. c. Provide coaching/ counseling and referral services to individual students d. Educate students regarding issues of Christian growth, values clarification, relationship choices, and other areas of personal growth. e. Guide students in learning what it means to live a life of honor. Assist in maintaining behavioral standards in the Ludlow Residence, consistent with school policy and state law. f. Serve on Honor Council to hear cases involving honor code and policy violations. g. Develop community building, residential education opportunities that provide spiritual, personal, and social support and accountability for male Houses. 3. Administrative Duties a. Oversee student check-ins and check-outs. b. Assist the Director of Residence Life with development and implementation of Chamberlain training and new student move-in. c. Meet regularly with team to evaluate status of residential living community and strategize ways to increase effectiveness. d. Use CAMS student database and maintain administrative networks to support day-to-day functions of Residence Life. Qualifications: Master’s degree in student affairs administration, higher education, counseling, or other relevant field preferred; Demonstrated commitment to students and their development; Experience in coaching students and fostering leadership growth; Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict mediation skills; Adept administrative and multitasking ability; Commitment to promoting a multicultural living, educational and work environment; Model of professionalism in dress and interactions with students; Two years of residence life professional experience preferred.
