Resident Directors are professional staff who live and have offices in the residence halls. They provide support services directly to students, supervise Resident Assistants, and serve as role models, teachers, mentors, and counselors to resident students. The Resident Director is a member of the Student Development team, who reports directly to the Vice President of Student Development. In addition to collaborating with other members of the Student Development staff, faculty, and students, the Resident Director works with the Resident Assistants to provide a challenging and supportive environment where students can live and learn. The Resident Director must be committed to helping students develop an environment in which they can learn the skills they need to experience personal growth and effectiveness in the educational and ministry community. A successful candidate must have academic training in the field of counseling or a related discipline. Pastoral or previous resident life experience is preferred. Skills needed include strong interpersonal, supervisory, organizational, and communication skills. Also, leadership and conflict management skills are needed. Candidates must have a servant spirit characterized by courtesy, cooperation, and consistency. Candidates must also be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and be an adept user of the Internet, e-mail, and other office automation systems.
